    With Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at home over Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, Ange Postecoglou was a happy man on the touchline.

    However, things began to unravel for the Australian as Chelsea pulled one back before halftime and went onto score 3 more goals in the second half to condemn Spurs to defeat.

    The loss to Chelsea means Spurs have failed to win any of their last 4 fixtures in all competitions ahead of a tough looking trip to Rangers in the Europa League.

    Two those 4 games finished in draws but the common theme with those matches and the defeat against Chelsea is that Spurs were winning but could not hold on to their advantage.

    A glance at the Premier League table shows Spurs are in 11th place, 7 points adrift of the top four. The stats show Spurs have little trouble when it comes to scoring goals but keeping them out has been a problem.

    In the 53 Premier League games with Postecoglou in charge, both teams have scored in 36 of them, which is a 68% record. Only one manager has a higher record during his time at Spurs and that was Ossie Ardiles with a 69% record of both teams scoring.

    Spurs have kept just 2 clean sheets in their last 9 Premier League games. They have had some injury problems at the back this season and that must be taken into consideration but cannot be used as an excuse.

    Teams form shows only Chelsea have scored more goals than Spurs in the Premier League this season and the Blues find themselves in second place. With the number of goals scored by Spurs, they should at least be in the top half of the table but they simply lose too many matches.

    Spurs have been in the lead in 10 games in the Premier League this season but they have won only 6 of those matches. The most notable disappointments have come at Brighton and at home to Chelsea, where Spurs were 2-0 up yet went on to concede 4 goals to lose those games.

    That is not good enough and game management must be brought into question when conceding 4 goals from a winning position. There is no need to be chasing games when 2-0 up and leaving yourself open defensively.

    Every manager has their principles and will stick by them but will stubbornness cost Spurs and Postecoglou?

    With Southampton away up next for Spurs in the Premier League, they cannot afford to drop more points against the team sitting bottom of the table. Liverpool follow at home and then there is a difficult trip to Nottingham Forest.

    If Spurs fail to pick up a victory from those 3 matches, Postecoglou will have some serious questions to answer. Fans love seeing their team score goals but they also want a winning team and with just 1 win from their 5 most recent Premier League fixtures, Spurs are far from successful right now.
