Can Arsenal regain some pride by defeating Liverpool in the PL?
    05/09/2025 4018

Liverpool boast the Premier League’s most prolific attack this season with 81 goals, and on Sunday, they will host Arsenal at Anfield in a showdown of the league’s best attack versus the best defence.

Which team will our score prediction back to win?

The Reds were crowned champions in April and have little to play for in terms of silverware; but they will be keen to remind the rest of the league why they led the table for most of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will go into the match off the back of Champions League heartbreak and a rapidly fading domestic run-in.

What was once shaping up to be a potential title decider has now been reduced to a meeting between the confirmed champions and a side trying to salvage pride.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners were knocked out of the Champions League in midweek by Paris Saint-Germain, losing 2-1 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate. That result ensured another season without silverware for Arsenal and extended Arteta’s wait for another trophy.

Domestically, Arsenal’s recent form has raised serious concerns. With only two wins from their last six Premier League matches, they’ve lost momentum at the worst possible time.

As it stands, they are just three points ahead of Manchester City and only six clear of sixth-placed Nottingham Forest, with three matches remaining.

Liverpool were beaten 3-1 away to Chelsea last weekend, putting in a flat display that suggested a title hangover may still be lingering.

Arne Slot’s men have otherwise enjoyed a dominant campaign, especially at home where they have won 14 of 17 league matches. Nottingham Forest remain the only visiting side to leave Anfield with all three points this season.

Defensively, Arsenal remain the Premier League’s best side, conceding only 31 goals. Liverpool follow closely behind with 35, but it’s in attack where the difference lies.

While the Gunners have scored 64 goals, a lack of a clinical striker has clearly limited their output in key games.

Arsenal’s top scorer this season is Kai Havertz with nine goals, yet the German hasn't featured since early February due to injury.

In contrast, Liverpool’s talisman Mohamed Salah continues to set the standard. The Egyptian has notched 28 goals and 18 assists, leading the league in both categories. Having a strong scoring forward shows the difference between these teams.

Arsenal’s inability to kill off matches has cost them, particularly on the road where they’ve drawn seven of their 17 fixtures.

Their last meeting with Liverpool ended in a 2-2 draw at the Emirates, despite twice taking the lead. Goals from Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino were cancelled out by Virgil van Dijk and Salah, who levelled late to snatch a point for the visitors.

Arteta has insisted that his side is among the best in the Premier League, yet Arsenal have not ended a single match week in top spot all season.

Liverpool, by contrast, led the league for 32 of the 35 rounds played so far. Sunday’s clash may not have title implications, but it remains a fixture loaded with narrative and pride.

Our score prediction is for a 2-2 draw between these clubs, as neither can get the upperhand.
