Bologna have not won the Coppa Italia since 1974. Now, the Rossoblu are aiming to lift silverware in the final. Can Bologna top AC Milan and win the trophy?

The Coppa Italia final on Wednesday night will see AC Milan take on Bologna. Just six days prior, these sides met in Serie A, with Milan overturning a second-half deficit to secure a 3-1 win.

Bologna took the lead through Riccardo Orsolini, but goals from Santiago Gimenez and Christian Pulisic turned the tide before Gimenez added a late third.

That result dealt a blow to Bologna’s Champions League aspirations and handed Milan a psychological edge ahead of the final. Now, with silverware on the line, Bologna manager Vincenzo Italiano will hope his players can quickly move on from that defeat.

The Rossoblu are eyeing the chance to end their long wait for a major trophy. Bologna have lifted the Coppa Italia just twice in their history, with their last triumph coming back in 1974.

That victory, achieved on penalties against Palermo, remains one of the club's most important moments. Decades of limited success have followed, but the current team has brought hope with a European campaign and a deep run in the domestic cup.

Milan, despite their status as one of Italy’s giants, have a surprisingly modest Coppa Italia record with just five titles. The Rossoneri’s last triumph came in 2003 when they beat Roma 6-3 over two legs.

The two teams reached the final with dominant semifinal performances. Milan brushed aside city rivals Inter 4-1 on aggregate, with Luka Jovic playing a starring role by scoring twice in the second leg.

Bologna dismantled Empoli 5-1 over two matches, with Thijs Dallinga grabbing a hat-trick across the tie.

Dallinga's three goals make him the second-highest scorer in this season’s tournament, behind Milan’s Tammy Abraham, who has netted four.

Bologna average 1.5 goals per game in Serie A, and their attacking threat was evident in the semifinal rout. Orsolini leads the team with 15 goals in all competitions, while Santiago Castro has chipped in with 10.

Milan average 1.61 goals per match in Serie A, but inconsistency has been their Achilles heel this season. However, their form has stabilised in recent weeks.

Pulisic has enjoyed a career campaign with 17 goals and 10 assists, making him Milan’s standout performer.

Team news favours Milan slightly, though both sides have absentees to manage. Bologna will be without Emil Holm and Dan Ndoye. Milan are missing midfielder Youssouf Fofana, but otherwise have a strong squad available.

History heavily favours Milan, who are unbeaten in 18 of their last 19 matches against Bologna across all competitions. They have also scored at least twice in eight of their last nine home matches against the Rossoblu.

The final should be a close match and our score prediction is for a 1-1 draw at full-time. Milan and Bologna will need extra time to decide which side wins the Coppa Italia.
